I took the plunge today and purchased a laptop from Dell. Specifically the Inspiron 1721.
With my current living situation, I need something I can take to and from work and quickly jump on the internet. My current machine (an early Panasonic Toughbook) could do a lot of things, but start up quickly and jump on a wireless network was not one of them.
I'm pretty sure my current laptop is around 10 years old, so it's about time. No worries, I'll find a good use for the old Toughbook. It's still a good laptop.
This is my first laptop purchase, hell... my first big-box computer purchase, so I'm pretty nervous to see how it turns out. I'm very much of a hands on type of guy, but I've heard good things about these models and I got a pretty good deal on the box. So we'll see.
Be seeing you.
Jason P. Thompson is a 20-something web and graphic designer. I currently live in Bedford, IN and work at three small-market radio stations based in the same city. At work I wear many hats including IT Consultant, Webmaster, Graphic Designer, Assistant Program Director and Morning Producer. I do work in radio, so assume that I only get paid for one of those jobs.
I went to school for a career in TV or film but I have found myself down many different careers paths since that time. Perhaps I will never have a life long career (even though I have been currently employed at the same place I was hired on in high school back in early 2001), but that's OK with me.
When not at work, I enjoy keeping up with film, television and graphic design. Television is a particularly "bad" vice of mine; I try to give every new show at least one chance before committing one way or another.

I turned my old laptop into a digital picture frame. I just gutted the laptop and mounted it inside an $8 shadowbox picture frame with some black cardboard matting around the screen. That was the only expense and people love it -- tons of directions online.
Goodluck with the dell --- should have gotten a macbook. ;)
