I wouldn't consider myself a NASA buff, but it is clearly an obsession of mine. (I know my friends might will say differently.)
I find myself in situations where people will ask me seemingly random questions about the space shuttle or the space station and I can usually throw out a rough answer without having to look anything up. That doesn't take skill, that just requires that you have been paying attention.
At times throughout the day/week I find myself watching NASA TV. This usually entails me staring at a near-static image of the space station floating in space or a framed image of communicators in Houston sitting at their stations. Boring? Sure, but when something happens I get all giddy inside. This is wrong. I know this. I have a problem. I have embraced it and ran with it. But I don't let it get carried away. Well... not too often.
I do live in the U.S. county with the most astronauts (per capita, mind you), so I'm surrounded by a community used to sending their locals into space. (It's on our welcome signs. Take that surrounding counties!) Maybe it's something in the water.
Working for NASA has always been a dream of mine. At one time I wanted to be an astronaut. I had plans set to fast track myself into orbit. That's when life stepped in and rerouted my tracks. Was I disappointed? Sure, but that doesn't mean that someday I won't be somehow involved with sending people into space. I'll always keep he dream alive.
I know there are more knowledgeable NASA geeks out there, but I do know that I'm definitely one of the biggest cheerleaders around these parts.
Be seeing you.
Jason P. Thompson is a 20-something web and graphic designer. I currently live in Bedford, IN and work at three small-market radio stations based in the same city. At work I wear many hats including IT Consultant, Webmaster, Graphic Designer, Assistant Program Director and Morning Producer. I do work in radio, so assume that I only get paid for one of those jobs.
I went to school for a career in TV or film but I have found myself down many different careers paths since that time. Perhaps I will never have a life long career (even though I have been currently employed at the same place I was hired on in high school back in early 2001), but that's OK with me.
When not at work, I enjoy keeping up with film, television and graphic design. Television is a particularly "bad" vice of mine; I try to give every new show at least one chance before committing one way or another.
