Coming down

I'm back from my vacation and it seems that I've come down with something. The flu, malaria, I don't know. Whatever it is, it knocked me down on my ass pretty hard last night and I had to take the day off from the radio station. I think it was my first sick day in some 2-3 years. Ugh. Work!

I have a number of personal "projects" that I want to get out of the way soon, including but not limited to:

1. Buy a mattress. Sleeping on the sofa has proven to become most uncomfortable these days. Yeah, I know.
2. Take more photos. A recent photowalk and vacation have gotten me back on the horse.
3. Fix my house. I really need to take advantage of spring this year and get moving on some home improvement projects.
4. Sell my house. Obviously this is a bit of a pipedream at this point, but it needs to be stated.
5. Write. I need to get back on the writing horse. 20 minutes a day should do.
6. Smile. Enough said.

That's it for now. I'm going to go lay down for a long while.

Be seeing you.

In the last 5 days the only time I've been able to get online is when I'm at work. For some random* reason my cable modem is no longer working and no matter what efforts I put forth to correct the issue the damn thing sits there and blinks endlessly to no avail. At the moment I do not care to call and infer about any changes to my account but if I don't soon my TiVo will run out of program information, and I simply cannot have that happen.

On top of my internet service on the fritz my cellphone absolutely refuses to jump back on it's normal service. When I look at my phone I see that old-school antenna icon in the upper left. Where did my little "E" go? You know... the service that slightly faster and slightly less annoying that what I'm dealing with now? Last night all I wanted to do... all I wanted to accomplish in my life for those precious hours was to send a photo I took of myself with my phone to Facebook. Every. Single. Time I tried to text the photo it would sit there for 5 minutes thinking and then dump the process. Argh! So frustrating.

At this point I'm ready to give everything up and start all over, but what would be the point in that? At least I found my flash drive two days ago. You know... the one that had my only copy of my personal budget (and which is still showing $10.05 missing out of the blue. Ten bucks, I say!).

Sigh...

Be seeing you.

Sunday was an interesting day. I pretty much took all of Saturday off (last week was one hell of a week) and I felt very unmotivated on Sunday (even though I did go to Wal-Mart to catch up on some light shopping that needed to be done). I had planned on going outside to do something (since it was beautiful out there) but before I did that I fixed an early lunch and sat down to eat.

Before I could chomp down my mom called and asked me if I wanted to go shopping with her and my godson, Chad. I decided that it would be best to get some of my pre-cruise clothing purchases out of the way so I went.

Hours later and some $200 odd dollars in the hole, I managed to get everything I needed (dress clothes wise) for my upcoming trip. I also got my hands on a new suit, which I didn't manage to take any photos of before sending it off to the seamstress. Your loss, I guess.

Once home, the weather was so nice that I decided to take care of my spring/summer house "to-do" list and took care of #3. It didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would so that's always a plus.

Two weeks until my cruise which I'm finding that I need ASAP.

Be seeing you.

Keeping Up The Pace

Seeing as I can't go 5 minutes without getting an email regarding spam comments, I had to turn off comments again. Sorry! If you know me... you know how to get a hold of me.

Anyhoo... this week has been a crazy week at work. First of all, Bill Clinton came to my town on Wednesday which I find insane, considering the major Republican pull in this town (then again... we just elected "our" first Independent female mayor not too long ago). Second... deadlines, deadlines, deadlines! Could I be any more needed by all of these people? And third... my managers meeting today was reminiscent of a stoner scene of That 70's Show. I honestly think after yesterday that all of us managers are simply spent and could use an alcoholic beverage.

Also... 16 days until my cruise! I'm actually starting to look forward to it and the running jokes having started coming down in droves at work. Some jokes include me never coming back, coming back married (wtf?) and/or someone burning down the radio station during my absence (which increases my chances of staying alive and not being blamed for it, which is a plus).

The next two weeks will be rough interesting, let's hope I can keep up with the pace and not spin out of control.

BTW... I got a haircut. Yippee.

Be seeing you.

Update: Looks like everything is good. Huzzah!

So much has been going on since the last time I wrote. Has it really been three months? Egads!... I feel bad now.

Anyways... work is still work, even though I must say that a much better time is being had by all. I've got a bigger office now (I just got a new fish tank too) and Z102 is sounding better than ever. Yeehaw! That and I'm going on my first vacation in two years. (Weird... April always seems to be the time when I can go on vacation.) Now that I have the ability to take time off (and get paid for it) I really need to start taking more advantage of that.

I've also started working out again... this time with a REAL trainer and I'm seeing results. I've already gained 13 pounds, mostly due to the fact that I am finally eating breakfast for once. (I never ate breakfast in high school because if I did I would see it again at practice, at least during the summertime.) That and I'm eating smaller meals throughout the day, blah blah blah... you get it.

But yes... I'm getting "ripped" and learning more and more that I can still run like crazy. I swear... I used to be able to wrap both of my hands around my quadriceps and touch my fingers together; now when I try to do it I have about 4 more inches to go. Nuts! People have also noticed that my general posture has improved and that is a huge thing for me.

I have managed to bum out my right knee and left ankle a little but my trainer is taking it easy and allowing me to do all of my training on machines that will be gentle on me until I get things working again.

Anyhoo... life could be better, but it could also be worse. Stay tuned.

Be seeing you.

House remodel photos by the end of the week. I promise.

Seriously... for real this time. I mean it. Stop laughing!

Also, five fantastic (and) new Threadless tees on their way to my house. Huzzah! Gifts for me!

Edit: Looks like I lied about those photos... again. But I have an excuse! It appears that I imported said photos to my laptop, which has been out of my possession for a week now. Once I get my hands back on it, I'll see what I can do.

"It'll Youthenize Our Audience!"

It has been said that I am a man of "big words" at times. I have been known to impress my general manager with the way I present ideas to a group of people. Today was not one of those days.

Today in a private meeting with my general manager (regarding a new program on the market) I made a statement and at the same time created a word that didn't fit at all.

I said, "I really like this program for this timeslot. I think it will help youthenize our audience!"

What I was trying to say is that the new program should help pull in a younger demographic for that time slot than what we are currently used to. It is clear that my statement took that thought and ran in the other direction.

Let's take a look at the dictionary, shall we?

euthanize
transitive verb
to put to death by euthanasia

I will only say this. I am human. I am known to make mistakes. At least I caught myself before I let this one get out of hand. It was good for a laugh, at least.

Be seeing you.

Techno vs. Electronica

I had to defend... correction... explain that there is a difference between techno (a specific form of electronic music) and electronica (an umbrella term describing all electronic music) to a fellow co-worker today.

It got heated for a little while, but in the end I came out the victor.

But is it really a victory? I mean... is it really something I should be proud of knowing and then defending passionately?

That's what I thought.

Buy this game.

If you don't have a Wii, buy a Wii just for this game.

Absolute brilliance.

about

Jason P. Thompson is a 20-something web and graphic designer. I currently live in Bedford, IN and work at three small-market radio stations based in the same city. At work I wear many hats including IT Consultant, Webmaster, Graphic Designer, Assistant Program Director and Morning Producer. I do work in radio, so assume that I only get paid for one of those jobs.

I went to school for a career in TV or film but I have found myself down many different careers paths since that time. Perhaps I will never have a life long career (even though I have been currently employed at the same place I was hired on in high school back in early 2001), but that's OK with me.

When not at work, I enjoy keeping up with film, television and graphic design. Television is a particularly "bad" vice of mine; I try to give every new show at least one chance before committing one way or another.
